Belle Tunisie

Living in Tunisia for three years opened my eyes to the beauty that is North African design. I’ve always been an admirer of arching doorways, cushioned nooks, and intricate tiles.

This place was a gem for these and more.

The azure hues of the Mediterranean inspire the blue found in stunning Sidi Bou Said’s intricate doors. Striped linens used for relaxing in the heated steam of hammams find their way into interior decor as bathroom hand towels or table cloths. And the rugs…do not forget the rugs. Endless designs of diamonds and stripes in earthy tones look lovely as they overlap in a large floor space.

I must admit, I left Tunisia with a number of decor items in tow. To splash your space with North African style, the following are some suggested items to collect.

steel floor lanterns

colorful ceramic plates

Kilim and Kairaoun rugs

silver or brass hammered plates

hammam towels
